Steven Haines is a senior technologist, accomplished architect, author, and educator. He spent the last seven years at two startups: Chronosphere and Turbonomic (acquired by IBM). At Chronosphere he helped customers design and implement their Observability strategies, at a very large scale. At Turbonomic, he was a principal software architect leading the development of their cloud optimization products. Previously, he spent six years at Disney as a technical architect and lead solution architect, as part of their architecture team, building out the next generation of Disney's guest experience and leading various Disney solutions. He is passionate about technology and how technology can be used to improve guest/customer experience, with a strong focus demonstrating business value and ROI to his clients.
He has a passion for innovation and entrepreneurship. At Quest Software he created a performance tuning professional services organization that used Quest's products to solve customer performance issues, at Turbonomic he created an Advanced Solutions Group that built product features for both their largest customers as well as for prospects, to help close deals, and at Chronosphere he built automated analysis of customer environments to optimize their Observability configuration and cost. Most recently, in 2023, he earned his MS in Innovation and Entrepreneurship at HEC Paris, which not only formalized his understanding of entrepreneurship, but allowed him to contribute to the launch of Powerly.
As an author he has written two books on Java programming and one on Java Performance Management; he has written over 500 articles for publications such as InformIT.com (Pearson Education), JavaWorld, Dr Dobb's Journal, and more; and he has written over a dozen white papers and ebooks on performance management and cloud-based architectures to empower companies to demonstrate their product value to the market.
As an educator he has taught computer science and Java courses at both Learning Tree University as well as the University of California Irvine and he has published six Java and Python courses on Pluralsight.
